Go Tell It on the Mountain- 08/17/2025
The song, "Go Tell It on the Mountain," is one that we often sing at Christmas. It's a song of celebration and urgency that conveys the message of Christ's arrival to the entire world, based on Luke 2:8-20. It is a traditional African American spiritual that may have originated in the United States during the period of slavery, although John Wesley Week, Jr. is credited with its popularity. He was passionate about collecting and preserving African American spirituals. The song emphasizes the importance of proclaiming the good news of Jesus's birth and connecting the Christmas story with the Great Commission (Mt. 28:18-20). Paul's example in Romans 15:14-19 encourages us to embrace our call to spread the Gospel with confidence, relying on God's grace and power. The transformative work of Jesus and the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit should inspire us to "Go Tell It on the Mountain", and everywhere, and to all people.
